J. Cole was the first artist to sign to Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation. He hails from North Carolina, but has the rhymes very similar to a New Yorker. The great thing about J. Cole is that he had no buzz before being signed, some may see that as a negative, but fail to realize he will not be categorized as Hipster or Gangster. This new class of rappers are rapping from within about what they have experienced in life. Cole has continually stated that he is in no rush to release an album because he wants the music to come to him organically. Those seem to be the same wise words his boss Jay-Z muttered right after the Black Album.
