Chris Brown has come a long way this year. Despite the constant scrutiny and criticism from the media, Chris has managed to take refuge in his music. The result – the successful release of his 3rd album Graffiti. Chris has truly evolved and transitioned into a young man with this new album. While this album may not be based solely on his private life, the 13 tracks listed give us some insight into his very public break up with former girlfriend Rihanna and consequently, his growth as an artist today.
His soulful and melodic track titled “Take My Time” channels his maturity and his eagerness to shed the violent skater boy, teeny bopper image his break up has caused. In another soulful song titled “Falling Down,” Chris portrays himself as just another human being trying to deal with public and personal issues with nowhere to turn.
Overall, Chris Brown may have lost most of his endorsements, but he has not lost his touch for creating chart topping hits. Although I may not condone domestic violence or Chris’s actions, I do believe that this new album shows his growth and maturity, particularly through his track tentatively titled “Wait” featuring young R&B heartthrob Trey Songz.
I give this new album an (3.5 stars out of 5) and I’m sure his fans will find his new album satisfactory as well.
Perfect song to start off Throwback Thursday. Saadiq has been producing ”old school” R&B music since his early days as a member of the multiplatinum group Tony! Toni! Toné! His latest project The Way It Is was released last year and has recieved rave reviews for its fusion of old school and new school. It was also voted Best Album on iTunes 2008.
This year he has 3 Grammy nominations for his The Way It Is…good luck Mr. Saadiq!!!
This video went WAY BETTER than I expected.
