Karen Civil has a documentary called A Star is Born which goes into details on the rise of Jay-Z‘s first artist J.Cole. In this first part it goes into how J.Cole came to New York from North Carolina and how he got signed to RocNation.

Battle of the Roc Bands

In the playful spirit of music I introduce to everyone the Roc Bands. These are the bands that the former founder of Roc-a-Fella Records are fans of and have been seen at either one of their concerts (Jay-Z) or collaborating with the rock group on an upcoming project (Dame Dash). The bands are Grizzly Bear with Jay-Z in their corner and The Black Keys with Dame Dash as their trainer. These two bands play different types of Rock music, but still are relatively “under the radar,” so to speak, when it comes to a mainstream fan base.
