To the surprise of many, Rev. Run’s encouragement to his daughter to work on making money now before waiting and depending on four hard-working years in college has been the instruction of many parents to their children in America as the economy seems at a stand still for opening up job opportunities for even the highest of qualified college graduates.
However, many parents who’ve always insisted on pursuing education as the next generation’s road to success are now beginning to agree with other parents like Rev. Run and encouraging their kids to work diligently on their “side hustle” to ensure a pay check at the end of the week.
“I don’t discourage in my house. This is an entertainment house,” Rev. Run said in a recent quote. “My daughter, Angela, was in college she was like, ‘Daddy, I don’t know what to do. I’m getting straight A’s in college but Pastries is taking off.’ I , ‘Peace college, go take your butt down to the sneaker office and go get that paper…that’s your college…We’ll get back to . Pastries is doing millions.’”
It’s a hard but real truth that, with the unhealthy economy, a college education may not cut it in the job industry for the next few years, leaving graduates with options to either find and hold on to part-time jobs for as long as they can or work diligently on their second talent and hope for the best. It’s times like these where the old philosophy is twisted from “It’s who you know” to “It’s what you can do”.
